I installed the plugin but it does not work for me.
When I try to do a manual backup, the blue progress bar gets all the way to the end and it appears that it has finished. But when I click the link to download the backup, the downloaded file is only 4k when it should be 6.3MB.
However, when I look in the "backup_81a5D" folder, the backup in the folder is correct.
Also, although I have scheduled daily backups to be sent to me via email, I have not yet received a single backup via email.
So it appears that the backup happens correctly to the server, but when I attempt to either download it or have it sent by email, it doesn't work.
I am receiving email replies to comments for my blog so I know email is working.
Can you try the development version of the plugin to see if it solves your problems?
I've put in some changes that should correct the file size issue. You can download it here. Just copy that wp-db-backup.php file over the existing wp-db-backup.php file in the wp-db-backup/ directory.
When I execute the backup, the blue progress bar gets all the way to the end. The message underneath says "Backup complete, preparing backup for download". However, nothing happens (nothing is downloaded). If I click on the linked "backup" in the sentence above, I get an Internal Server Error 500.
You can see a picture of what I'm talking about here.
When I check my backup_81a5d folder, I can see that the manual backups are being created successfully. But for some reason they will not download.
Also, as I mentioned previously, I am not receiving email backups. And I don't think the scheduling function is working, because although I have set it to make weekly backups, I don't see any backups created in the backup_81a5d folder for that time period.
Okay, I disabled all other plugins besides yours and tried the backup. It worked without a problem.
I apologize for taking your time. I should have done this sooner.
But I have no idea which plugin is causing the issue. Here's a list of what I have installed. Do you have any ideas about which plugin might be conflicting?
Sorry, I couldn't edit the last post to include the list. Here it is:

I have a similar problem. I got an email just fine from two sites that have Contact Form 7 -- even though the backup page seemed to hang at the "preparing email" stage.
But on a very large site I'm trying to backup, both email and download hung at that point with no evidence that it was completed.
I can't find the backup_81a5d folder you all are referring to. Where is this located?
Hi filosofo,
the plugin works perfectly when downloading the backup file to my pc, when using browser Firefox.
But! It does not work in Opera!!!
Cheers, Josef
About 2 weeks ago, I stopped getting the automated email backup.
When I tried to backup the database manually, using any option (save to server, download, email), it would not work. The progress bar would eventually stop showing progress even if I left the window open for hours.
After reading this forum, I deactivated the Contact Form 7 and All in One SEO plugins, and the WB DB Backup plugin would successfully save the backup to the server manually. I never received an email with the database backup, but it could be that it has grown too large to send in email. The site has about 5600 posts and about 37,000 comments.
I have had the three plugins (WB DB Backup, All in One SEO, Contact Form 7) working together for a few months now. I'm not sure why the combo would quit playing together nicely two weeks ago.
Here are the versions that I'm using.
Wordpress v2.8.6
WP DB Backup v2.2.2
Contact Form 7 v2.1.1
All in One SEO v1.6.10.1
I am having a problem getting this plugin to work. It used to automatically save the databases on my serve but it just stopped recently. I am using 2.8.6 with All In One SEO and Contact Form as well. I tried disabling these plugins but still didn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your help.
I have the same problem. It downloads a 2 meg file, but when I pick it up, it's just 4k in size.
Tim
What browser are you using? And timwindsor, what do you mean by "pick it up"?
I am using Safari 4.0.3 on Mac OS X.
Any help possible here? Thanks.
I wondered if another plugin might be interfering, but my backup works, it's just the emailing that doesn't, and only on 1 site.

WOOHOO! Well, that does at least email the backup file to me without giving an error, nice job.
The email cam through and it looks like the attachment is the right size too.
I will let you know later if the scheduling is working or not, but expect that might not be fixed yet.
It still does not work for me.

After further research, I've found that your plugin is incompatible with both Contact Form 7 and All In One SEO Pack.
Do you have any ideas about why this might be the case?
Both of them are very commonly used plugins and are likely to affect many users.
I am using All In One SEO Pack as well.
However on 2 of my blogs I haven't had any problems, only on the 3rd.

I get the same bug. Just a 4 kb back-up file :( Any posibility of a fix? This is what the file contains upon opening it in text edit:
# WordPress MySQL database backup
#
# Generated: Tuesday 27. October 2009 15:43 CET
# Hostname: xxxxxxxxx
# Database:
xxxxxxxxxxx# ----------------------------------
However, it's working when I set it to mail me the file. What gives?
jokkesvin, are you extracting the gzipped file with a gzip tool, before trying to open it in a text editor?
Have you tried the version I linked to above? What was the result?
After upgrade the plugin doesn't work anymore. Whenever i try to backup it redirects me to my homepage.
I have reinstalled it several times but still. Any suggestions?

I had this issue (initiate manual backup and was being redirected to home page)
The problem for me was a plugin called wordpress-firewall. I added an exception to its rules and all was well.
I am having a problem getting this plugin to work. It used to automatically save the databases on my serve but it just stopped recently. I am using 2.8.6 with All In One SEO and Contact Form as well. I tried disabling these plugins but still didn't work. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure what you mean. WP-DB-Backup has never had the option to automatically save backups to the server.
Could you be using another plugin?
