Here's an example of people getting worked up about backups saved to the server and saying my plugin has security problems: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/200372

I agree with you in principle that more choice is better, but in practice I choose to err on the side of caution. You wouldn't screw it up, but dozens of other people would.

On the positive side of things, it wouldn't be hard to write a plugin that complements this plugin by doing what you want. I just don't have the time at the moment to do so.

I fail to see how it is your fault when you give people a choice. I am not saying replace the scheduled email with the scheduled server. Just offer them both as a choice.

Besides, you do offer "Save to server" when you do a one-time backup. How is that any different ?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work you're done with the plugin. I just don't see what's wrong with more choice.

No, sorry. I think saving the backup to the server is a bad idea, so I'm not going to help people do it.

The main thing is that people who leave their backups on the server and have mis-configured servers end up exposing their private data to the world, and consequently my plugin gets the blame.

Another is that it would be too easy to fill up a shared hosting's allotted disk space with automatic backups.

Finally, the point of the backups is redundancy in case of failure; if the backups are kept on the same machine as the database (a common scenario) it defeats the purpose.

Hello,

Any reason I don't have a "save to server" option for scheduled backups ? I would like to have my NAS periodically retrieve the backup from the server, but currently that is not possible.

Any chance that this is implemented ?

Regards,
Stefan
