Mine stopped emailing the backups to me as well. The last one I received in my email inbox was on February 2. I have very few pictures on my website. There's not a lot to back up.

was having the same issue with scheduled and manual backup not working and maybe I found something.

Until last mid december I was receiving weekly the backup, wich is about when WP 3.3 was released.

After reading the comments here and around, it seems as suggested by scruss that this is related to SQL file size.

When using the default WP-DB-Backup setting, the current SQL backup generated for my site is about 9mb. (have no idea what it was before WP3.3)

After checking my web host info I found a line with a PHP post_max_size limit to 8mb, I have no clue if this is related as I'm not really into that stuff, but here is the thing : when I exclude "spam comments" and "post revisions" from WP-DB-Backup settings, the SQL generated drops to less than 3mb, and all is working again (manual d/l, manual email and scheduled email).

Worth having a try.

I noticed that I have a ton of files in the wp-content/backup* folder.

But in January 2011, something changed:

I used to have sql.gz files processed until January 5th. As of January 12th, the plugin processed .sql files. I have 52 of them for 2011 and not a single one hit my inbox. Then again, I suspect that's to be expected; the gzipped files were 10MB and the .sql files are close to 100MB.

I just did a manual backup. The .sql file was created but again was not sent to me. I have no mail logs indicating that an email was even attempted. Maybe the files are too large to even be attempted.

It would be AWESOME if Austin could chime in on the issue here.

One of my wordpress blogs has been hacked (again). The good news is, I had installed the WordPress Database Backup Plugin after the last hacking. The bad news is, I'm not sure it was properly activated and had made a valid backup before the hacking. How can I check this? Also, is there a fee-based number I can call for phone support on this, if needed? Thanks.

I have the same issue here: Plugin´s working like a charm but when I try to open the nameofbackupfile.sql.gz then an error occurs in 7-zip telling me: gz is not supported archive.

Now this is not true cause all other zipped files extract like they should. I am working on WP 3.1.2 with plugin 2.2.3 Version, chance is 7:1 that it works (like stated here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/

Server is a unix system with apache 2.0 API and php 5.3.3.

Any ideas?

It was working just fine, until I upgraded to the latest version of WP (3.3). Now it stopped working. Manual download doesn't work either.

I am having the same problem with WP-DB Backup:

A manual backup to email works fine. But it will not backup automatically.

Any help would be appreciated.

I tried (;) as separator but apparently even this has not worked. The one other thing I have noticed is that the plugin is sending email only to the address associated with the admin account?

Okay, let's go on with my strange mono-dialogue:

Today the problem reoccurred and I don't have a clue about what has been changed. The only thing I did was commenting out (and in) "extension=php_zip.dll" in PHP because this was the only thing I had changed before it suddenly worked.

So now using your plug-in, I get a file which is of a file size (53KB) that I would expect for my backup. But: no decompressor accepts the file.

Is there a possibility for backing up without compression?

Okay, I think I have to take my posting back. Although I tried to extract the file with two different tools on my pc, it seems to be a client issue and not a problem of the file. On the webserver, I could successfully open it.

I just installed wp-db-admin 2.2.3 DE-Edition on Wordpress 3.2.1 on Win2k Server which we are hosting by ourselves.

Installation worked fine and the progress bar when starting a backup looked promising. I got a 48kB file which I downloaded, but it seems as if the file is not a GZIP file. 7-ZIP as well as TUGZip say it's not a proper GZIP file when I try to decompress.

Due to incompatibility with win2k we use an older PHP version on our server namely 5.2.17.

A real, real newbie to WordPress but I realise that I must backup:) My site is half blog/half non-blog with masses of pages - are these also backed up too? Thanks for your help.

Forgive me if this has already been suggested before, but yesterday I discovered where my backups are stored on my site. I also discovered there were 2 yrs worth of backups which I hadn't cleared out.

It would be great if the plugin settings page made clearer exactly where the backups were being stored (showing a filepath for example).

Even better would be a new feature allowing you to automatically delete old backups so you didn't have to go in & do this manually. You could set it to delete every backup but the most recent one; or to delete all backups older than a certain specified date.

I use the plugin in at least 10 sites and I have the same problem only in one and, as scruss wrote, it happens 'cause it's the only one site with many many pictures and infos, so the plugin store the (big) B.U. file in the wp-content/backup folder.
Not too much terrible, but sometime I'm out of home and I can't use ftp programs like Cyberduck ('cause Filezilla give an error).
Can be resolved, please?

Have you checked to see if there are a whole bunch of *.sql files in the wp-content/backup-* folder? It seems that - if you're on shared hosting with a small memory limit - the compressing/mailing stage fails, and leaves the uncompressed files lying around.

I have had exactly the same problem, as described by Valerie above. This worked like clockwork. I got a backup by email every day. Then all of a sudden it stopped. It may have been in January, I really don't know without checking back, but that would appear to be about right. It has been on my to-do list to get this sorted for months. Today have tried again to get it working, and it doesn't. It does seem to be a common issue ... but why doesn't anyone respond? Or more importantly, why isn't this issue being fixed?

It's 3 months since the last post and not even a reply. is anyone out there? Does anyone care? Is there any support? I have the same situation. The plugin seems to be working and backing up, and then tells me that the backup was sent to my email address, but it wasn't. By the way, I have donated.

Hi, I am trying to use your nice plugin with wp 3.2.1. But I am getting this error on a white screen when trying to do a default backup: "Are you sure you want to do this?" There is no tickbox what so ever.

Wp-backup has stopped working and I have no idea why or where to start looking to fix it. I have installed no new plug-ins, file permissions are good.
Behaviour is that when I click on backup it takes me to my home page. No error message or anything just flips me out of admin.

You can't make changes to the database with WP DB Backup. It just backs-up the database; it doesn't make any changes.

You can change the database using a tool PHPMyAdmin, which is probably found in your site's control panel.

How to make a few changes (using WP Database Backup) without loosing access?

I need to make a few changes to the database, such as the domain name, and the path to the website, etc.

I'm afraid that if I use this application and make one change, that I won't be able to continue and make the additional changes since I may lose connection to the backed of my Wordpress website (after I make the initial change).

What possible recommendations might you have?

Is there a way to make a few changes (all together) somehow so I won't lose access to my Wordpress website after I make each change??

I disabled other plugins 1 by 1 and confirmed 64 meg memory_limit in php.ini

also uncomented and set define('MOD_EVASIVE_OVERRIDE', true);
and set delay as much as 5000

This is a very small and new database (only 3 users right now) so db size is not an issue.

I tried saving to server and downloading.

wp db backup 2.2.3

Anything else I should try?

Deleting the plugin would definitely stop it from doing anything. Are you sure that you deleted it?

Had the DB backup plugin set up to send emails daily to my user. (www.courtneyaaron.com) After updating to Wordpress 3.2.1, the plugin started sending database backup files every 15-30 minutes.

What do I do!? I'm at a loss.

Having a similar problem, but slightly different. The plugin was working perfectly fine up until the end of January apparently. I noticed all of sudden (several months later) that I had not been receiving the backup emails any longer. I checked back and saw that it was indeed January! So I checked the Tools section and it's all set up to backup daily and send via email, so I tried it manually once. It backed up but never sent it to my email account. It's just not functioning for me any longer. Please help.

By the way, did anyone else on this forum get replied to?

Hello! I have changed hosting companies and want to use the back-up zip file I have from using your plugin to restore the entire wordpress site to the new host.

I have installed wordpress at the new hosting account, but now what? How do I install the backup to the new hosting account?

Will this install (restore) all the graphics, posts, etc?

great tool-so easy to set up and use!
Been using your database basck up tool for about three months -just in test mode.

It was working great until recently when it has stopped performing the following functions on our test database which in raw sql mode is 30mbytes big:
- wont gzip
-wont save to pc (insists on saving direct to server)
-wont email back up (presumablky because its too big in unzipped format)

Any ideas please?
